So lovely to have my memory stoked! And to be connected over the trials and tribulations of writing. I haven't had the guts to take the freelance leap…yet!
And worst part of Rise had to be picking up a severed sex worker’s finger from the restaurant floor! Ah, Cambodia.
Haha, right?! It's definitely a “You had to be there” kind of thing, hey? I still struggle to align it all in my mind. It's weird to have lived so many lives and so many chapters. Especially compared to most people in Perth. Edgewalkers vs surface dwellers, yknow?
And yeah, freelancing is a strange beast, especially at the moment. But honestly, I still find it less scary than having to be my own best advocate and publicist and sharing my own stuff with the world! If you ever want some tips, feel free to reach out. I've got a pitching template I use for my mentoring clients I can send you 🥰
Also, totally unsolicited advice, but I reckon you could easily pitch a first person essay about why you're starting Real Happy as a childfree teacher to somewhere like Scary Mommy. They seem to always be looking for pitches and you've got a really strong angle there that I think will absolutely appeal to their audience base. Could be worth a shot, anyway!
We've had such weird and wonderful life experiences!
Amazing, Cassie. I'd love to see how you pitch. I sent a couple of articles to magazines years ago, but have done nothing since. I haven't gotten my head around PR for this yet. I feel like there are 100s of things I need to do at once. I'll check out Scary Mommy. Ironically, I'm so unfamiliar with parenting sites and outlets.
And I think I need to strip back to writing the book, maybe outsourcing the socials, and getting in front of a couple of magazines, as you suggest.
Perfect, I just dropped you an email 🥰 best advice is to triage it all. Focus on the dial-moving activities but make a list of the nice-to-dos and if/when you find you have more capacity for them you can come back to them when the inspiration strikes! Even the best jugglers all had to start with throwing and catching one ball first 💜

Such sage advice and thank you so so much for the email and resources. Angel. 😇
