Hey Gillian! I'm just on the edge of Perth in Western Australia - between the bush and the beach, as I like to call it! I grew up in Sussex and then lived in Sheffield for many years, and then travelled all over before ending up here as a result of a coin flip, not long before the world shut down and everything changed. Funny how these things work, isn't it?! I love it here but it's never quite where I saw myself ending up. Who knows what the future holds though!

There's so much here! I love the gentleness; the favourite trees, the openness to beauty, the cycles of the earth! Very tender and diurnal at once.

Thank you so much! I find when I write I feel a bit like I'm setting off on a journey and I have a vague destination in mind but the words usually tend to want to lead me somewhere else. I'm in the middle of writing a book at the moment and I think that has a lot to do with it (exploring long-form as a medium rather than short-form like my usual articles), but I'm still loving what comes out! So excited to read more of your beautiful words too :)

Hi Beth, I'm on the Same winter Writing Sanctuary Journey, and living in UK.

I'm with you all the way about signs and omens, and as for your Grandmothers broomstick I just love it. To continued success

Hey Gillian! Thank you so much for reading my work. I'm loving the Winter Writing Sanctuary so far. My family are in the UK and I grew up there so even though it's summer here it still feels like my heart is in winter even if my body is in the heat!

You called me Beth, but I'm going to hazard a guess that you actually meant me as you followed me after that Facebook post yesterday - however, if you did mean Beth or want to follow more of Beth's work you can find her here! https://bethkempton.substack.com

Either way, it's a pleasure to have you here and I very much appreciate your comment :)

animism is the original religion of all cultures.

I see some correspondence with omen days and La Posadas as celebrated in Latin cultures, tracing the journey of Joseph and Mary, now an excuse to gather family and party, but also syncretically related to animistic solstice gods and celebrations. Was just in Mexico, working on some entries while mentioning some of that.
